Letter to the Editor: South Central Arkansas Electric Cooperative expresses deep appreciation following historic storm and flood

Submitted

In the wake of one of the most devastating storms and historic flooding events to impact our region, South Central Arkansas Electric Cooperative (SCAEC) extends its deepest gratitude to the dedicated operations team, our resilient linemen, and our valued contractor, MDR Construction, for their unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in restoring power to our members.

Over the past several days, our communities have faced unprecedented challenges. Torrential rains, strong winds, and flooding created dangerous working conditions, widespread outages, and significant damage to our electric infrastructure.

Yet, through it all, the men and women of SCAEC—especially our linemen—worked around the clock, braving the elements with grit, professionalism, and heart.

“Our operations team and linemen exemplified what it means to serve with purpose and pride,” said Colby Wells, CEO of SCAEC. “Their dedication—alongside the support of our line contractor MDR—ensured that power was restored as safely and quickly as possible. We owe them a great debt of gratitude.”

SCAEC also extends heartfelt thanks to the communities we serve for their steadfast support and to our members for their patience, resilience, and understanding during this critical time. The encouragement we’ve received from our members—whether through kind words, messages, or simple acts of appreciation—has meant the world to our team as they pushed forward through long hours and tough conditions.

This event has once again underscored the strength of rural Arkansas. It reminded us that, even in the face of adversity, we rise together—united by the values of community, service, and perseverance.

As we continue to monitor conditions and address remaining service needs, we ask that all members stay alert to safety notices and reach out to our team with any ongoing concerns.

Thank you to all who stood with us. Together, we weathered the storm—and together, we move forward.
