Felony incident still under investigation: Shoplifting less than $5,000, Glendale Court

12:38 p.m.
Police were made abreast of a vehicle that had been stuck and abandoned at Rose Hill Cemetery. An officer conducted an extensive search of the grounds, eventually locating the sedan well off the west branch of the main entrance, behind some of the lower grave plots near the ravine dividing the cemetery. There were several ruts and holes left behind in the driver’s attempt to leave. Running the license plates, the policeman was able to make contact with the owner, 20-year-old Killian Gleaves, of Arkadelphia, who relayed that he’d gotten the vehicle stuck the previous evening. Asked how the car ended up there, he said he thought it was the road. He’d contacted a wrecker service to retrieve the vehicle but was informed it might take a few days to let the ground dry up from recent rains. The officer advised Gleaves he would be responsible for any damages caused by the vehicle’s retrieval, and was cited for second-degree criminal mischief.

The driver, Eliseo Espinoza-Mendez, 35, of Arkadelphia, was detained and, through the use of a Spanish translator, performed a series of sobriety tests, each of which he failed.
