The latest U.S. Drought Monitor map of Arkansas shows improvement to parts of the state.
A statement from the National Weather Service in Little Rock says that nearly 89% of Arkansas continues to experience drought conditions, with nearly 75% of the state in D2 Severe Drought or greater.
For the first time in weeks, the entirety of Clark County is in D2 Severe Drought, an improvement from D3 Extreme Drought. The intensity scale ranges from None to D4 Exceptional Drought. A sliver of extreme northwestern Arkansas has no drought, and pockets of extreme northeastern and southeastern Arkansas remain under D4 Exceptional Drought.
The latest map, released June 11 and reflecting conditions as of June 9, show portions of Nevada, Howard, Columbia, Lafayette and Miller counties to have improved to D1 Moderate Drought.
Drought conditions are expected to improve over the next three months.
