BITS & PIECES: Saturday, May 21

On this day 10 years ago, the Caddo Valley City Council relieved their police chief of his duties, just five months after he was selected for the job. (SOURCE: Daily Siftings Herald, found in the archives at Ouachita Baptist University’s Riley-Hickingbotham Library)

Tuesday is Election Day for the May primaries. I may not vote often, but I get excited about covering elections. There were occasions in my print days when I would work well past midnight to piece together several articles, and my byline would be on every article of the next edition’s front page. Even more fun were the times when the whole editorial team would chip in on election night, with each reporter assigned a special task. It’s been a few years since I covered an election, but I’m looking forward to it.

Wish we could get our hands on whoever invented emoji, especially the tawdry ones like the 100 and bulls-eye. You’re adults. Use your words.

Part 6/9
Once home I shaved the rest of the goatee, and kept a shaven face throughout the healing process. One afternoon at a student art show I ran into a girl I had seen on several occasions. She doted on my appearance: “You’re cute without facial hair.”

Today, 125 seniors from Arkadelphia High School will receive their diploma. It’s a special occasion for these students and their families. We wish each and every one of them a bright and successful future. We’ll share a gallery from the event later today.
