Thunderstorms possible Thursday, Friday

Rain and thunderstorms will be possible for the area Thursday, June 18, and into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

Moisture will increase Thursday as a cold front moves through the state, likely causing widespread showers and thunderstorms. The northern half of Arkansas is under a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) of severe weather. The primary concern there will be gusty winds with any stronger storms that develop. The southern half of the state, including the Arkadelphia area, is not included in the area of risk, although some thunderstorms cannot be ruled out.

The official forecast calls for a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in Arkadelphia between mid-morning and noon, with a high near 90 and heat index values as high as 102. Thursday night expect another chance of showers and thunderstorms, followed by increased chances for both after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70% under increasing clouds and a low around 72.

Friday is calling for a 50% chance of precipitation sometime before 1 p.m., and again late that night into early Saturday morning.

Scattered showers and storms will be possible through the weekend, and temperatures will be a touch cooler Thursday before warming back into the mid 80s to lower 90s through the weekend.
