Quorum Court talks courthouse security, windows

Sun rises over Arkadelphia

The Clark County Quorum Court held a brief meeting Monday evening. With no unfinished business, the court turned its attention to an appropriation ordinance. At the motion of Justice Jenna Scott, the matter passed with Justice Andrea Angle seconding it.

Stan Elrod, with the Clark County Museum, then gave the annual presentation for that group. The court has provided $500 per month for the museum, which is housed in the old railroad depot in Arkadelphia. After hearing Elrod’s presentation, Justice BJ Johns moved that the request be turned over to the Budget Committee to check for funding availability.

In County Judge Troy Tucker’s report, he noted that the county had received a $20,000 grant to enhance and add additional cameras to the court complex.  He also noted that the county’s $209,000 grant from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program to replace the windows in the courthouse was far too low. To assist the county, the organization added $100,000, but Tucker noted that the price was still not enough, but it will fund 80 windows. He said his successor will have to complete the project using another grant cycle.

Tucker also noted that the jail and 911 center have “signifiant roof leaks.” He stated that he hopes to partner with Siplast again for a discounted price on a new roof.

The judge also asked for prayers for Treasurer Karen Arnold, who is recovering from a recent stroke.

In other business, the court:

• Heard Scott remind Tucker that the Personnel Committee needs to draft a new policy dealing with AI. Tucker asked that County Clerk Tracy Pruitt coordinate with his office in setting up a meeting.

• Voted at the motion of Justices Wayne Baumgardner and Stuart Thomas to have Tucker approve the Annual Reporting Requirements for the fairgrounds.

• Voted at the motion of Justice Tracy Drake and Baumgardner to appoint Mary Katherine Leamons as a member of the Gurdon Library board.
