2 die in South Arkansas car wrecks

Two people were killed in recent days on South Arkansas roadways.

A Memphis-area geologist died as a result of an April 29 crash in Hot Springs. According to a preliminary fatal crash summary, Forrest City resident James Edward Knight was traveling south in a 2015 Toyota Prius on the 800 block of Richard Street when he crossed the centerline and veered off the street, colliding with a tree before striking a residence.

The crash happened at about noon under clear skies and on dry road conditions, according to investigating Officer Shawn Lowrey of the Hot Springs Police Department.

Knight, 79, was taken to CHI St. Vincent Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on May 2, according to an online obituary posted at Roller-Citizen’s Funeral Home.

On Thursday, May 7, a Texas woman was killed while crossing a city street in El Dorado.

An Arkansas State Police report says that 78-year-old Judith Tarvan, of Fort Worth, was attempting to cross East 5th Street when she was struck by an eastbound Chevrolet. The collision happened near the North Washington Street intersection.

Tarvan was transported to South Arkansas Regional Medical Center, where she died. Her body was being held at the Union County Morgue.

No injuries were reported inside the vehicle.

The incident occurred at 2:15 p.m. under clear skies and on dry roads. State Trooper Logan Holmes investigated the collision.
