Elizabeth was born near Wilmot, Arkansas on October 27, 1937, on the Crawley farm. She was the ninth child and youngest daughter of Alexander Stewart Crawley and Velma Elizabeth Turner Crawley.
She graduated from Wilmot High School in 1955 and attended college at what was then known as Arkansas A&M in Monticello, Arkansas. It was there she met a handsome young man – George Sharp of Hermitage, Arkansas. In 1960, the young couple and their first child moved back to Monticello where she continued her teaching career with a position at Drew Central High School. Their path in life led them next to DeValls Bluff, Arkansas where she taught Home Economics and George taught math.
By 1965, the couple moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas and Elizabeth initially worked as a lab technician at a local hospital and physician’s office until a position opened at Bismarck High School, where she spent the remainder of her teaching career. Elizabeth loved teaching at Bismarck and was there almost 30 years until she retired in the early 1990s.
The couple opened Kregs Catfish restaurant in the early 1980s and after her husband’s death she operated the restaurant until she retired to spend time and travel with her two grandchildren. She also loved to garden and work in her yard and travel with her friends Mary and Jerry Francis of Francis Custom Tours. She will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit, gracious nature, and unwavering love for her family and students.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Elizabeth Sharp of Little Rock and Karen Sharp Halbert (Lance) of Little Rock; her grandson, Jared Ryan Halbert of Bentonville, Arkansas; and her granddaughter, Audra Elizabeth Halbert of Kansas City, Kansas. She is also survived by her sisters, Jenny Washam of Bastrop, Louisiana, and Avis Harrelson of Warren, Arkansas; her brothers, Robert Crawley of Little Rock and Alex Crawley (Dixie) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
