Open to the general public, the Arkadelphia Community Health Fair & Child Safety Initiative is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, at Peake Elementary School from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The free event is presented by St. Paul AME Church and Trinity Temple Assembly of God.

There will be free screenings including BMI measurements, blood pressure, colorectal, glucose, lung cancer, skin cancer, prostate cancer, a blood drive, flu shots, dental screenings, cholesterol, confidential HIV testing, hearing, physicals, clinical breast screenings, vision, as well as information on health and life insurance.

The event promises food, fun and family enjoyment, as well as free hair cuts, manicures and braids. Free shuttle rides will be available by calling 501-813-0643. Participants must be present to win door prizes including a big-screen TV, bicycles, Beats by Dre, a tablet, and more.

While the health fair seeks to educate the community about health and provide an engaging array of free health screening, preventive service literature and more, the child safety initiative will be just as engaging as it seeks to raise awareness about safety and foster a stronger sense of community.

Simultaneously, the child safety initiative will be equally captivating as it strives to increase safety awareness and build a more cohesive community. Although some aspects may be subject to change, this portion of the event will feature a “Drug Take Back” program, opportunities to interact with public safety personnel, and tours of various first responder vehicles, including Arkansas State Police, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Arkadelphia Police, and Fire Department vehicles.

Other attractions will comprise Hospital Injury Prevention, ATV Safety demonstrations, Baby Showers, car seat safety education and inspections, a Safety House (SCEC), burn education, child identification and fingerprinting services, CPR and First Aid demonstrations, poison control information, and more. Expect a variety of interactive and informative experiences.

Title sponsors for the event are Am Better Arkansas Health Wellness, Baptist Health, Southern Bancorp, University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension, and Arkansas Minority Health Commission. In-Kind sponsors include Brookshire’s, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, UAMS, Arkansas Urology, A-Town Fitness, Foundation Fitness, and Cosmetology Academy of Arkadelphia.
