ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas — An attack on a fellow inmate prompted a new felony indictment for a Gurdon man being held on drug charges.
A probable cause affidavit filed this week by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office says that 59-year-old Anthony Donnel Anderson sprayed another inmate, Ricky Provence Jr., 22, in the face and eyes with a watered-down bleach solution used for cleaning showers and toilets in jail cells.
The affidavit doesn’t indicate which prisoner was the aggressor in the June 4 attack but says both began to argue before Anderson allegedly used a pump spray bottle in the altercation.
The two then engaged in a fist fight before a jailer entered the cell block and intervened.
EMTs were called to the jail to check and treat both Anderson and Provence.
Anderson, in custody for felony drug possession, now faces an additional charge of second-degree battery, a Class D felony. Bond for the new charge was set at $50,000 during a first appearance.
Provence, of Amity, is in jail on charges of second-degree battery. Court records note that he was arrested in April after a relative phoned 911 to report Provence was “fighting everyone in the house.” Three individuals in the home suffered minor injuries in that attack.
