With the Great American Eclipse less than a week away, the National Weather Service in Little Rock’s most recent data suggests that Southwest Arkansas could have less than favorable viewing conditions for the historic event.
The latest data suggests that much of northern, western and central Arkansas will have a medium to high chance of favorable eclipse viewing conditions.
The NWS forecast for Arkadelphia shows a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday, but also calls for mostly sunny skies. The mercury on Monday is expected to top out at 78˚F.
A broader forecast is showing large storm systems will be over the northern Rocky Mountains or upper Midwest and southwest U.S. on Monday. Ahead of those systems a south- to southwest flow will provide moisture and clouds, as well as chances for showers, mainly from southern Arkansas to the Gulf Coast. Farther north, in the path of totality, some clouds are expected but there is currently a “medium to high” chance of viewing the eclipse.
The weather service noted that any information over more than a few days of a specific time is subject to change. Forecast details will be fine-tuned as additional data is received up to the time of the eclipse.
