Arkadelphia man wanted for attack on elderly resident

UPDATE: Suspect was taken into custody without incident Tuesday morning in Arkadelphia.

ORIGINAL POST: An attack on an elderly man in Arkadelphia has police searching for a person of interest.

Police said that a 71-year-old South Austin Street man was attacked early Monday afternoon in his home in an apparent attempted robbery. Jermaine Jenkins, 26, is being sought as a person of interest. Jenkins is a black male and drives a white 2010 Hyundai Elantra bearing a license plate of 804-ZDS. Police did not provide a photo of Jenkins. He is wanted on charges of residential burglary and second-degree battery.

The victim was transported to Baptist Health Medical Center for injuries he suffered in the incident.

“We do not believe this was a random act,” said Arkadelphia Police Chief Jason “Shorty” Jackson, adding that Jenkins poses no public threat.
