Voters in Gurdon will soon decide whether they will support a millage increase to support the Gurdon Public School District.
Early voting will take place May 2-8 at the Arkadelphia Recreation Center, located at 2555 Twin Rivers Dr. Hours for early voting are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The polls will not be open that Saturday. Absentee ballots may be requested by contacting the Clark County Clerk’s Office at 870-246-4491.

The 2023 annual school election will be Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Election Day voting will take place at the Gurdon Municipal Building, 103 Maple St., from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Voters must show photo identification.

ARKADELPHIA 44.65 MILLS SCHOOL TAX
The total proposed school tax levy of 44.65 mills represents the same rate presently being collected. The total proposed tax levy of 44.65 mills includes 27.0 mills for the maintenance and operation of schools and 17.65 mills for debt service previously voted as a continuing levy pledged for the retirement of existing bonded indebtedness. The district may use surplus revenues produced each by the debt service millage for other purposes.
CENTERPOINT 41 MILLS SCHOOL TAX
To submit the question of voting a total school district levy of 41 mills. This total tax levy includes 25.0 mills specifically voted for general maintenance and operation of schools and 16 mills for debt service. This represents no change from the previous year. Surplus revenues produced each year by debt service millage may be used by the District for other school purposes.
GURDON SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 60 43.0 MILL SCHOOL TAX
43.0 Mill School Tax The total rate proposed above includes the uniform rate of 25.0 mills (the “Statewide Uniform Rate”) to be collected on all taxable property in the State and remitted to the State Treasurer pursuant to Amendment No. 74 to the Arkansas Constitution to be used solely for maintenance and operation of schools in the State. As provided in Amendment No. 74, the Statewide Uniform Rate replaces a portion of the existing rate of tax levied by this School District and available for maintenance and operation of schools in this District. The total proposed school tax levy of 43.0 mills includes 25.0 mills specifically voted for general maintenance and operation, 11.0 mills voted for debt service previously voted as a continuing levy pledged for the retirement of existing bonded indebtedness and 7.0 new debt service mills. The 7.0 new debt service mills plus the 11.0 existing debt service mills now pledged for the retirement of existing bonded indebtedness, which debt service mills will continue after retirement of the bonds to which now pledged, will be a continuing debt service tax until the retirement of proposed bonds to be issued in the principal amount of $8,100,000, and which will mature over a period of 35 years, and will be issued for the purpose of refunding the District’s Refunding Bonds, dated July 7, 2020 and constructing and equipping various capital improvements to existing school facilities. The surplus revenues produced each year by the debt service millage may be used by the District for other school purposes. The total proposed school tax levy of 43.0 mills represents a 7.0 mill increase over the current tax rate.
SOUTH PIKE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT 41.00 MILLS SCHOOL TAX
The total rate proposed above includes the uniform rate of tax 25.0 mills (the”Statewide Uniform Rate”) to be collected on all taxable property in the State and remitted to the State Treasurer pursuant to Amendment No. 74 to the Arkansas Constitution to be used solely for maintenance and operation of schools in the State. As provided in Amendment No. 74, the Statewide Uniform Rate replaces a portion of the existing rate of tax levied by this School District and available for maintenance and operation of schools in this District. The total proposed school tax levy of 41.00 mills includes 31.50 mills specifically voted for general maintenance and operation and 9.50 mills voted for debt service previously voted as a continuing levy pledged for the retirement of existing bonded indebtedness. The surplus revenues produced each year by the debt service millage may be used by the District for other school purposes. The total proposed school tax levy of 41.00 mills represents the same rate presently being collected.
