Dispatch Desk: Newborn kittens dumped at lady’s doorstep

The following incidents were gathered from reports filed June 1-7, 2026, at the Arkadelphia Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Arrested or cited individuals are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. The Arkadelphian does not withhold names, so don’t even think about asking.

Wednesday, May 27

Felony incident still under investigation: Theft, 200 block of South 26th Street

Sunday, May 31

9:15 p.m.
An officer was summoned to the area of Caddo and Clinton streets for a report of three unleashed dogs on the caller’s property. The officer went to the Clinton Street home where the dogs belonged and found multiple other dogs, some of which were loose. Contact was made with the owner, who was instructed to leash/secure the dogs to be in compliance with a city ordinance pertaining to roaming animals. The following day the officer was directed to issue citations to the owner, Chad Villa, 56, as police had been called to the residence multiple times in the past for complaints of loose dogs. The officer noted in his report that months prior to the citation he had witnessed Villa endeavor to surrender dogs to the city’s Animal Control, which was unable to house them due to a lack of space.

Monday, June 1

3:05 p.m.
A Country Club Road woman reported someone dumped a bag of newborn kittens on her doorstep early that morning. The complainant didn’t know who did it but did provide security footage of the person she believed dumped the felines, which were taken to a local veterinary clinic.

Tuesday, June 2

8:47 a.m.
Police were called to the Walmart parking lot, where a woman who slept in her vehicle overnight reported that someone likely siphoned a quarter tank of fuel during her slumber, emptying the tank.

12:23 p.m.
An elderly female reported two unauthorized withdrawals from her bank account following contact in April by an unknown party that presented themselves as a bank representative. Two unauthorized transactions totaling $60 were made a month apart.

Wednesday, June 3

10:30 a.m.
Officers and firefighters were called to Phillips 66, 3120 Pine St., for a report of a vehicle fire at a fuel pump. An officer provided a fire extinguisher to a volunteer fireman, and the Arkadelphia Fire Department arrived and fully extinguished the blaze. Aside from the vehicle, which was totally consumed by the fire, police noted no other property damage.

Friday, June 5

6:10 a.m.
A woman requested a welfare check on her mother at Ouachita Village Apartments, 11 Cypress Road, as the mother, 68, had recently undergone back surgery and hadn’t made contact since June 2. Unable to make audible contact with the woman, police made entry into the apartment via an unlocked window and found her deceased on the floor. A deputy coroner arrived and determined the death was from natural causes.

Felony incident still under investigation: 2nd degree battery on a law enforcement officer, 25th Street

Saturday, June 6

3:53 p.m.
Officers were called to Walmart for a store complaint of a shoplifter accused of skip-scanning groceries in a self checkout lane. Police arrived to find the suspect, 39-year-old Justin M. Darnell, of Hot Springs, arguing with the asset protection officer that he hadn’t stolen anything. Darnell then recanted his original statements, declaring he mistakenly skip-scanned the merchandise. Darnell was arrested for theft of property and issued a lifetime ban from Walmart due to “previous history.”

Sunday, June 7

1 a.m.
Police were called to a possible disturbance in the parking lot at Carpenter Hill Apartments, 650 S. 6th St. Officers arrived, locating a group of individuals, one of whom was the victim of an apparent attack by a known female at a party on Logan Street. An officer documented her physical injuries and advised her of warrant procedures.

Monday, June 8

12:15 a.m.
A deputy responded to the eastbound 69 on-ramp of Interstate 30 for a report of an 18-wheeler on fire. Upon arrival the deputy discovered that the driver had detached his truck from the trailer, the rear of which was engulfed in flames. AFD arrived and extinguished the fire, and the trailer was towed from the scene.
