Wet week ahead for region

Some much-needed rainfall is in the forecast this week for the local area.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, the upcoming week (through May 22) will allow for numerous chances for rain and storms to impact Arkansas.

Most of the state is under a Slight (2/5) risk for severe storms on Tuesday, when showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of an advancing cold front in the afternoon and evening. Damaging, gusty winds and large hail are expected to be the main threats.

There remains a good chance that locations across the state will tally at least 1 inch of rainfall through Friday, with some locations nearing or exceeding 2 inches of total rainfall.

As of Monday, the Arkadelphia forecast called for a chance of showers and storms Tuesday afternoon under mostly cloudy skies and a high near 85. Precipitation chances are 60%, growing to 70% that night with a low around 64.

Showers and possible thunderstorms will return Wednesday afternoon, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 90%, decreasing to 60% that evening with a low around 60.

Thursday is calling for showers and thunderstorms throughout the day with a high near 75. Chance of precipitation is 60%, growing to 80% that evening with more showers and a thunderstorm and a low around 61.

The forecast says that Friday could see more showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with a high near 77 and a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 70% that day, falling to 60% in the evening.

There remains a chance of precipitation Saturday and Sunday, as well, with mostly cloudy skies and highs around 80 and lows in the 60s.

Drought conditions remain for Clark County and the surrounding area, according to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map, released May 14. Parts of Clark County are under D2 Severe Drought, and other parts are under D3 Extreme Drought. Drought intensity ranges on a scale of none to D4 Exceptional Drought.
