Southwest Arkansas counties see fall in jobless rate despite slight uptick in state, U.S. unemployment

Clark County’s unemployment rate for August 2025, not seasonally adjusted, is at 5.2%, according to a preliminary county-by-county report released by the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services.

According to the report, Clark County had a labor force of 9,889 persons with 9,372 employed and 517 unemployed. The unemployment rate fell five-tenths of a percentage point from the July report of 5.7%. During that period the labor force grew by 296 from 9,593 persons.

For the same period in 2024, Clark County reported an unemployment rate of 5% with a labor force of 8,814 persons.

For this recent period, Clark County’s unemployment rate was on par with Ouachita County for the second-highest rate among each of the six neighboring counties, second to Nevada County.

On the far eastern edge of the state, in the Arkansas Delta, Desha County (Arkansas City) held the highest jobless rate rate in August 2025, with 7.2% of its employable population without jobs. In the far northwestern corner of the state, Benton County (Springdale) reported the lowest unemployment rate in Arkansas, with 3.1% of its labor force without jobs. Neighboring Washington (Fayetteville) and Madison (Huntsville) counties reported similarly low jobless rates of 3.3% each.

Statewide, Arkansas’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate was at 3.8%, an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point since the July report. There were 1.37 million jobs reported in Arkansas in August and 53,852 unemployed. The U.S. jobless rate is at 4.3%, also one-tenth of a percentage point higher than the previous report, with an estimated 163 million employed and 7.38 million unemployed.

The unemployment rate for Nevada County (Prescott) fell to 5.7%, compared to 6.3% in July. Nevada County reports a labor force of 2,581.

The unemployment rate for Ouachita County (Camden) fell to 5.2%, compared to 5.4% in July. Ouachita County reports a labor force of 8,970.

The unemployment rate for Montgomery County (Mt. Ida) fell to 5%, compared to 5.2% in July. Montgomery County reports a labor force of 3,107.

The unemployment rate for Hot Spring County (Malvern) fell to 4.6%, compared to 4.7% in July. Hot Spring County reports a labor force of 13,240.

The unemployment rate for Dallas County (Fordyce) fell to 4.4%, compared to 4.7% in July. Dallas County reports a labor force of 2,746.

The unemployment rate for Pike County (Murfreesboro) fell to 4%, compared to 4.3% in July. Pike County reports a labor force of 4,339.

The unemployment rate in Garland County (Hot Springs) is at 4.2% in August. Garland County reports a labor force of 44,060.

The unemployment rate in Saline County (Benton) is at 3.4% in August. Saline County reports a labor force of 67,625.
