The following incidents were gathered from reports filed at the Arkadelphia Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Names of arrested individuals were collected at the Clark County Detention Center on Crittenden Street in Arkadelphia. They are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. The Arkadelphian does not withhold names from the arrest log, so don’t even think about asking.

Tuesday, Sept. 16
Felony incident still under investigation: Cruelty to animals, 900 block of South 26th Street
10:10 p.m.
Officers were called to single-vehicle parking lot accident at Ridgecrest Apartment, 724 S. 10th St. Upon arrival police made contact with Jeffrey Lynn Gray, 55, of that address. Gray was seated inside his truck, which had backed into a tree on the property. An officer observed smoke coming from inside the vehicle and instructed Gray to exit for his own safety; a policeman then turned off the ignition. While speaking to Gray about the accident, the officer detected the odor of intoxicants emitting from Gray’s person and got an admission of the alcohol he had consumed. An ambulance crew arrived and determined Gray was uninjured. The officer then conducted field sobriety tests, both of which Gray failed, resulting in his arrest for DWI.
Wednesday, Sept. 17
11 p.m.
Police were called to a residence at the 300 block of North 22nd Street for a report of vandalism to a vehicle that had just occurred following threatening texts by the caller’s ex-lover. The following evening, police were again called to the residence for a report that the ex’s siblings had followed him home and physically attacked his female acquaintance before they could enter the residence. The suspects then fled the scene in a dark SUV. Police couldn’t find visible evidence of the attack. The complainants were advised of affidavit procedures.

Felony incident still under investigation: Theft of property valued between $5,000-$25,000, Tiger Mart
9:30 a.m.
Police were called to the Baptist Health Medical Center Emergency Room for a report of a dog bite. The man being treated for a wound to his hand relayed that a known male’s pit bull was unleashed in Feaster Park at the time he was bitten. Officers then went to the dog owner’s residence, where it was reaffirmed that the dog had been unleashed at the time of the incident. The owner, Herman Knox, 62, was unable to provide current vaccination records. Animal Control seized the dog for a mandatory 10-day quarantine period, and Knox was cited for violation of the city’s dog leash ordinance and given a court date.
Felony incident still under investigation: Theft of a motor vehicle, 1700 block of Sylvia Street
10:42 p.m.
Officers were dispatched to 67 Grill, 629 Main St., where a highly intoxicated female had reportedly cut herself and was refusing to leave the premises. Upon arrival an officer observed a female on Main Street near the Bee Hive thrift store. The woman, who refused to identify herself, appeared highly intoxicated and was bleeding profusely from her left hand. Officers contained the woman until an ambulance crew arrived to transport her to the Emergency Room. While police were on the scene, several large groups of drunken individuals began congregating on the sidewalk in front of 67 Grill. An officer dispersed the groups to maintain order. Due to the unruly behavior inside the establishment, restaurant staff decided to close the event early. As officers assisted staff in clearing patrons from the premises, Jasmine Castleberry approached a table where several patrons were refusing to vacate, and a loud argument ensued. Before an officer could intervene, he witnessed Castleberry slam a beer bottle against a table and throw it at a woman, striking her in the forehead and causing a 3-inch hematoma. Castleberry was arrested at the scene on charges of third-degree battery. Police remained on scene to disperse additional bystanders who had disregarded previous instructions to leave the area. Castleberry was released from custody on Sunday morning.

Juvenile report: Runaway
4:29 p.m.
A patron of Mr. Sud’s Laundromat, 1309 Pine St., reported the theft of his wallet, which he had left atop an ATM as he left the building to retrieve an item from his vehicle. Police were able to review surveillance footage showing an unidentified male take the wallet from the ATM.

Monday, Sept. 15
11:40 a.m.
A deputy was called to Palmetto Road for a report of a log truck snagging a power line, ripping it from its pole onto the roadway. Linemen arrived and determined the line was a telecommunications line, and that the pole would need to be replaced.
