The following incidents were gathered from reports filed at the Arkadelphia Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Names of arrested individuals were collected at the Clark County Detention Center on Crittenden Street in Arkadelphia. They are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. The Arkadelphian does not withhold names from the arrest log, so don’t even think about asking.

Friday, Aug. 1

Felony incident still under investigation: Theft of a firearm valued less than $2,500, 700 block of South 10th Street

4:04 p.m.
Amanda L. Currey, 55, of Gurdon, was cited at Walmart for theft of property following a store complaint of a shoplifter seen on camera skip-scanning items and swapping price tags.

Police took a report of a missing 53-year-old male. He returned home about two hours after the report was made.

10:15 a.m.
A Logan Street woman reported someone entered her residence through a window.

3:44 p.m.
A Country Club Road woman reported someone broke two windows out of her SUV.

A welfare recipient reported the theft of $975 worth of EBT benefits after her card was declined at a grocery store.

12:20 p.m.
Officers were called to 670 S. 6th St. for a complaint of a house guest who had overstayed his welcome but refused to leave. William Stone, 50, of Fort Smith, also refused officers’ instructions to vacate. An attempt to place him in handcuffs was met with a physical struggle to detain Stone, who struck one officer in the forehead with his elbow. Advised then that he’d better comply or else be tasered, Stone continued resisting until Cpl. Adam Taylor delivered on his promise, tasing Stone on the right arm. Stone was arrested for resisting arrest and criminal trespass.

Sandra Kay Green, 33, of Arkadelphia, was cited at Walmart for theft of property following a store complaint of a shoplifter skip-scanning items at a self-checkout register.

A welfare recipient reported $83 was stolen from her EBT account, making the discovery when her card was declined while attempting to buy groceries at Walmart.

8:01 p.m.
Officers were called to Walmart for reports of a man stumbling through the parking lot in search of his car. A policeman arrived and made contact with Robert G. Schultz, 64, of Arkadelphia, who said he had lost his shoes while trying to locate his vehicle. Asked if he’d been drinking, Schultz admitted to consuming three drinks and taking anxiety medication prior to his Walmart visit. Given the results of a portable breath test and his intention to drive his vehicle once he found it, Schultz was arrested for public intoxication.

Juvenile report: Criminal mischief-1st degree to property of a mother valued $500 or less

9:20 p.m.
Police were summoned to Ámbar for a caller’s concern that a fight was about to break out between intoxicated patrons. Upon police arrival they observed a small crowd gathered in front of the restaurant and learned that three men had been unruly with fellow customers and staff. In addition to a language barrier, officers had difficulty ascertaining the customers’ identities as only one provided identification. One of the men showed a passport listing his age as 18. Police contacted the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Division regarding the customers being served without providing identification and the possibility of a minor being among those served. No arrest was made, nor were any citations written.

Police were called to a Clinton Street residence for a theft complaint. The victim conveyed that someone wiped his account of $700 after stealing two debit/credit cards.

Wednesday, Aug. 6

Police were called to Circle K for a report of a hit-and-run accident and provided a description of the suspect vehicle. An officer located the vehicle traveling east on Walnut Street; the driver gained speed turned north onto 26th Street and gained speed before a traffic stop was made at 26th and Barkman. The driver, 43-year-old Stacey Finch, of Arkadelphia, exited the vehicle and admitted she ran from the scene because she had warrants for her arrest, a suspended driver’s license and no insurance. Dispatchers confirmed Finch’s claims, and the officer also learned she was using fictitious tags on an unregistered car. Finch was arrested for fleeing the scene of an accident and other charges.

Thursday, Aug. 7

A welfare recipient reported the theft of $120 in EBT benefits, likely by a known suspect.

Felony incident still under investigation: Theft of property valued between $1,000-$5,000, no location listed.

Police were called to Atwoods for a theft report when a black male exited the store with a shopping cart containing more than $1,200 worth of DeWalt power tools. The suspect loaded the merchandise into a white Dodge Journey and fled the area.

An officer took a report of a domestic disturbance that turned into threats being made during a child custody exchange at the Pine Plaza parking lot.

Police were called to a disturbance at 120 North 20th St.

Friday, Aug. 8

A welfare recipient reported the fraudulent use of his SNAP benefits. His card had been used two purchases in New Jersey and one in Pennsylvania, depleting his account of $285.

An officer took a delayed report of a hit-and-run parking lot accident at the Recreation Center.

Walmart’s asset protection complained of an identified shoplifter who made off with two 43-inch televisions and left in a brown Nissan Altima. The suspect is listed on Walmart’s theft records system at least 37 different times.

Saturday, Aug. 9

Felony incident still under investigation: Theft of a motor vehicle, 1600 block of Crawford Street

Monday, Aug. 11

The fraudulent use of a debit card was reported at Tiger Mart, where a female said she refueled her vehicle and, while still at the pump, received text notification from her bank of that transaction as well as another unauthorized transaction at the same time and place.

Officers were called to a North 14th Street residence for a domestic disturbance in which a male suspect, locked out after an argument, forcibly re-entered the residence and damaged the door. He was gone prior to police arrival.

Juvenile report: Criminal trespass

Police were requested to a North 13th Street home where the resident complained of receiving a water bill that was about $180 higher than usual. The resident directed officers to a neighboring property undergoing a remodel, and alleged that workers there had used her garden hose. An officer ultimately made contact with the contractor, who admitted that his workers had used the hose to fill a five-gallon bucket. A water department employee confirmed that the complainant’s meter had been read prior to the date the remodeling started.

Tuesday, Aug. 12

Juvenile report: Public intoxication

An officer was called to Vo Auto Sales, where the owner complained of an animal damaging a vehicle. The owner provided security footage showing a dog biting, chewing, pulling and jumping on the rear passenger side of the vehicle. It was assumed that a cat was hiding under the car. Damages to the vehicle included the rear bumper, rear quarter panel, rear door and a rocker panel.

A man reported his wallet stolen at Circle K and a bank notification of an unauthorized transaction at a Caddo Valley motel.

8:20 p.m.
Officers were dispatched to a C Street residence for a domestic disturbance between a male and female.

Saturday, Aug. 16

A man reported a mower flung rocks onto his vehicle and trailer.

Sunday, Aug. 17

A South 23rd Street woman reported damages to her vehicle.

Police took a report of a domestic disturbance that occurred at a South 10th Street residence. No arrests were made.

Monday, Aug. 18

Juvenile report: Possession of tobacco by a minor

A female reported being harassed and followed by a known female. She was advised to present her evidence to the prosecutor’s office to pursue further action.

Tuesday, Aug. 19

Felony incident still under investigation: Theft $5,000 or less, 2500 block of Barkman Street

A Donaldson man reported being threatened by the operator of an electric scooter on Haddock Street, where the scooter driver reportedly attempted to overtake the complainant’s vehicle but lost control and crashed. The scooter driver then got up and blamed the driver for the crash, making death threats. Police were able to identify the suspect; no arrest had been made or citation issued.

Wednesday, Aug. 20
3:42 a.m.
Police were dispatched to Circle K for a complaint of a belligerent customer yelling at the store clerk and customers. Upon officers’ arrival contact was made with Delta Don Hill, 51, of Arkadelphia, as he was reportedly yelling swears and homophobic slurs at the cashier. Hill exhibited signs of intoxication and was instructed to exit the store to be placed under arrest for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Thursday, Aug. 21

Officers were requested to aid a deputy sheriff with a felony warrant service at a Cypress Road residence. As the suspect, Justin Lavon Johnson, 35, of Arkadelphia, was advised of his arrest warrant he stuck his hands in front of his body and started walking backwards. Two Arkadelphia officers grabbed his arms to put them behind his back, but he began pulling and shoving his body to prevent being detained. Instructed to halt or be tasered, Johnson continued to resist; Officer Destiny Bishop deployed her taser, the prongs making contact with Johnson’s abdomen and thigh. Mechanical issues made the effort ineffective. Bishop and Sgt. John Schofer then swept Johnson’s legs from under him to carry out the arrest for the felony warrant, disorderly conduct, obstructing governmental operations, failure to obey police commands and resisting arrest. During the scuffle Schofer received abrasions to both elbows, his forearm and hand. He was treated and released at Baptist Health Medical Center.

Friday, Aug. 22

Theft of anxiety medication was reported at a 25th Street Circle residence.

Police took a report of damage to a rental property door at Powder Mill Apartments.

Saturday, Aug. 23

A Taco Bell employee reported being threatened by a co-worker.

An officer responded to Baptist Health Medical Center, where a Gurdon woman was being treated for a dog bite on her finger. The woman relayed that a stray dog had bitten her on South 25th Street.

Sunday, Aug. 24

Officers responded to Carpenter Hill Apartments for a domestic disturbance involving a male and female. 

Police were called to Ouachita Village Apartments for a welfare check on a female with mental illness who removed the screen door from a neighbor’s residence. She was instructed to steer clear of the neighbor.

Monday, Aug. 4

Following a 911 hangup call from a Kimberly Drive residence, a deputy arrived and spoke with the residents and learned there had been a physical altercation between a male and female. After taking statements from both parties and observing evidence of physical harm to the female, Chad Tauran Dixon, 39, of Arkadelphia, was taken into custody for second-degree domestic battery.

Vandalism was reported at Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Okolona.

Sunday, Aug. 10
2:04 a.m.
A deputy checked Clear Lake to find three intoxicated males listening to loud music in the parking lot. One of the men, 33-year-old Montego McClure, of Arkadelphia, is a convicted felon with a search waiver on file; a search of his vehicle revealed a .22 rifle, and he was arrested for possession of a firearm by a certain person. A backpack at the vehicle belonging contained three ecstasy pills. Albert Wallace, 20, of Arkadelphia, claimed ownership of the pills, and he was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance. A third man was transported by ambulance to the hospital because he had vomited multiple times during the interaction.
