Heavy rain, flooding in weekend forecast

Widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected through the weekend as a slow moving system moves through the area, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock. 

Rainfall totals will range from 3-5 inches for most of the state with locally higher amounts of 5-7 inches possible over portions of western and southwest Arkansas. 

Localized flooding can not be discounted especially Thursday afternoon and Friday night mainly over western and southwestern Arkansas. Hot and humid conditions return to the state around the middle of next week with heat indices over 100 possible.

A Flood Watch remains in effect for portions of Southwest and western Arkansas through Saturday.

Showers and thunderstorms will be likely Friday afternoon, mainly after 4 p.m. Skies will be partly sunny, with a high near 83 and a southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between 1/10 and 1/4 inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue into the evening hours, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Saturday there is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with partly sunny skies and a high near 84. A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms will linger throughout the night Saturday, with a low around 69.

Sunday’s chance of precipitation and storms is at 40%, mainly during the afternoon hours, again with partly sunny skies and a high near 86. Sunday night there is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Following more chances of rain Monday, the rest of the workweek appears to be mostly clear skies with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s.
