PINE BLUFF, Arkansas — Authorities are unable to determine the driver of a Dodge Charger that went airborne in a high-speed crash that ejected both occupants, killing them.
A preliminary fatal crash summary by Arkansas State Police said the 2012 Charger was traveling east on 6th Avenue at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway at a Union Pacific rail crossing near the Spruce Street intersection. The vehicle struck a power pole and went airborne, crossing a ditch and striking both sets of railroad tracks before coming to a final rest beneath the overpass.
During the crash, both occupants were ejected and landed several feet from the vehicle. Both Pine Bluff residents — Dennis D. Mendenhall, 20, and Daniel L. Thompson, 18, of Pine Bluff — perished in the crash. “It cannot be determined at this time who was operating the vehicle,” the report states.
Investigating officer Lt. Travis Goforth of the Pine Bluff Police Department recorded the time of the accident as 4 a.m. Sunday, May 4, 2025. The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of the accident.
