GURDON, Arkansas — Nestled in the lowlands of southern Clark County is the tight-knit community of Moon Valley. Nearly half of the 300 residents here say they’re hanging out their clothes to dry one last time and organizing a nudist colony in an effort to pay homage to their community’s namesake.
Dan Gleebitz, a Georgia-Pacific foreman, is spearheading the effort along with his partner, Betty Humpter. The pair say the recent decision to shuck their garb swiftly caught on, as they noticed dozens of other neighbors donning their birthday suits in undressed unison.
“We only wear our smiles here in Moon Valley,” Humpter said.
Police officials say they’ll be keeping a close eye on the residents of Moon Valley. Sheriff Jason Watson said deputies have been deployed to the colony to keep looky-loos at bay. The deputies, he added, will be equipped with body cams. The sheriff pledged to review footage daily to ensure that Moon Valley residents continue their shame-free lifestyle.
