MagnoliaReporter.com: Former South Arkansas clerk/treasurer pleads guilty to theft of $35K

By BECKY BELL | magnoliareporter.com

Alison Lane, 36, of Magnolia, a former clerk/treasurer at the City of Emerson Water Department, pleaded guilty earlier this month to stealing more than $35,000 while working there.

The state did not prosecute a charge of abuse of office initially attached to this case.

Plea agreement documents show Lane took a total of $35,059 from the city and must also pay $9,500 for Arkansas Legislative Audit to perform an audit to study what happened to the money.

Public Defender Caren Harp defended Lane. Lane did not show emotion as she gave her plea.

Lane has been in court for months on the charges, but on January 9 she pleaded to her guilt. She agreed to pay $4,500 per month to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office to provide restitution for her crime.
