The latest update from the Arkansas Forestry Division shows worsening conditions for burning in the lower third of the state.
At 9:22 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, there were 16 counties with a “high” threat of wildfire danger. Most counties in the Ouachita Mountains and the Arkansas Delta remain under a “moderate” threat of wildfire danger.
On Monday morning three Arkansas counties — Dallas, Ouachita and Sevier — had issued burn bans prohibiting residents from burning outdoors.

Abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions are in place across parts of the state, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

The NWS is predicting a cold front to move across the state Friday into Saturday, bringing along with it chances of precipitation. Cooler temperatures will be seen in its wake, as well.
