While on routine patrol an officer witnessed a named suspect standing behind the Beehive beside a Dumpster near the donation dock. As he pulled into the adjacent parking lot he witnessed the male suspect with a large trash bag on the handle bars of a bicycle. He was stopped and detained based on numerous recent reports of theft from the dock, the time of night and prior knowledge that a large percentage of the donations are left on the dock bagged as they were in the suspect’s possession. After identifying the suspect, the officer explained that the items on the dock were Beehive property, and questioned him about the bag in his possession. The suspect said he removed the property from the Dumpster. The officer removed the property from the bags, photographed the contents, re-bagged the merchandise and released the suspect. A daytime officer reviewed surveillance footage revealing that the suspect had indeed removed property from the dock. Attempts to relocate the suspect were not successful.

Michael Alvin Buckley Jr., 19, of Fordyce, was arrested at 811 Wade St. for theft of property and obstructing governmental operations. Police had initially been summoned to 815 Wade St. for a report that the aforementioned car-bashing vandal was back on the property. That suspect led police on a foot chase, running through multiple yards and jumping multiple fences along Walnut Street. One policeman tasered the suspect, but a good connection was not made; a followup shot had the same results. Officers lost sight of the suspect in a wooded area at the 1000 block of South 11th Street.
During the pursuit, Sgt. Jody Evans’s cell phone had fallen off his person; it was alleged that Buckley, who had given officers a false name, had taken the phone. An officer called Evans’s number to hear an “M.J.” answer the phone, but attempts to get him to exit the residence were unsuccessful. A female came out but wouldn’t allow police inside without a warrant; her mother arrived and was able to clear the residence of all suspects, including Buckley, who continued giving officers a fake name until they showed him a photo of his driver’s license and got him to admit his true identity. Following his arrest and multiple attempts to get aid in locating Evans’s phone, the younger female surrendered the phone, along with its case and SIM card, which had been removed from the device.
The suspect who fled on foot remained on the lam.

The compliant suspect relayed that he had a pistol. Police handcuffed the man and removed the pistol from his right front pocket, and he was detained in a police car. An officer was sent to the complainant’s Clinton Street residence, where several people were gathered but none would answer questions. Meanwhile, a check of the gun returned clear, and the intoxicated gun toter was given a courtesy ride to his South 10th Street residence. Police seized the firearm for the night, informing the subject he could retrieve it when he sobered up.
