Federal funding secures new hangar at Arkadelphia airport

The Arkadelphia Board of Directors gave unanimous approval Tuesday of a bid to construct a hangar at Dexter Florence Memorial Field.

Once built, the hangar is expected to be used for overnight parking of aircraft, as well as a maintenance facility. Airport personnel told directors that there is a demand from pilots who want a place to park their planes upon flying into Arkadelphia.

Funding for the 60’x60’ hangar will be fully covered by the Federal Aviation Administration. Three bids were offered, but the lowest bidder, reportedly unfamiliar with the paperwork involved in government projects, failed to complete the requirements set forth in the proposal.

Directors accepted a bid from Frank A. Rogers & Co. in the amount of $465,037.11. Rogers recently completed a three-bay hangar at the municipal airport. The approved bid will be submitted when the next grant cycle opens.
