1 dead, 2 hurt in Malvern collision

A head-on collision Friday on Arkansas Highway 9 left one person dead and two others injured.

According to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash report, 18-year-old Kimberly Carter, of Sheridan, died as a result of the crash. The report states that Carter was southbound in a 2009 Chevrolet HHR and attempting to overtake a vehicle when she lost control and slid sideways into the northbound lane, into the path of a 2015 Jeep.

The passenger side of Carter’s vehicle apparently collided with the oncoming Jeep.

Carter was transported to CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, where she was pronounced deceased.

The report says that Simsboro, Louisiana, residents Nascha James, 30, and Kayden Guidry, 18, were also transported to the hospital for treatment to unlisted injuries.

The crash happened at 5:07 p.m. June 7, 2024, under clear skies and on dry roads, according to Cpl. Kyle Sheldon, who investigated the accident.
