Demolition work involving two buildings on the west side of the Magnolia Square is having an impact – literally and figuratively – on downtown businesses.

On Thursday, part of the north wall of the former Frame ‘n Gallery collapsed onto the former 2C Custom Framing building next door.

The story began on Wednesday, March 20, when an excavator tore into the former Barton Art Studio, 111 S. Jefferson, which sits between Dyson’s Mid-South Service and Frame ‘n Gallery. The art studio and the Frame ‘n Gallery buildings are both owned by Bonita H. Barton but both have been unoccupied for several years.

The tear down of the art studio resulted in some damage to the Dyson’s building. Since March 20, workers have been hauling away debris from the Barton Art Studio before starting demolition work on the Frame n’ Gallery.

Earlier this week, workers began prepping the two-story Frame n’ Gallery for demolition. An old radio antenna was removed. Most of the exterior walls on the south side of the Frame ‘n Gallery were torn out.
