For the Month in Clark County History, we combed through bound copies of the Daily Siftings Herald housed in the archives at Ouachita Baptist University. Here are some front-page news briefs from editions dating 10, 20 and 30 years ago.
In April 1994:
• Then-KARK’s meteorologist Barry Brandt made an appearance at Goza Middle School to kick off the station’s third season of “Barry’s Weather Hops.” While in Arkadelphia, Brandt and the News 4 crew participated in activities on the first of the Festival of Two Rivers, played basketball and took canoeing lessons on the Ouachita River.

• A four-story men’s dormitory at Ouachita Baptist University was in full construction after controversy the previous winter between the university and residents living on Cherry Street and Cherry Lane.
In April 2004:
• A crawfish boil held in the parking lot of U.S. Bank was among several activities that took place at the Festival of Two Rivers in downtown Arkadelphia.

• School board members in neighboring Dallas County were mulling over which nearby district Sparkman Public Schools would consolidate with. The district ultimately consolidated with Harmony Grove-Camden and remained under its management until 2022 when Harmony Grove’s school board voted to close the school. The school in Sparkman remains open in a partnership with Arkansas Virtual Academy.
In April 2014:
• In celebration of Arbor Day, city officials planted trees at the Arkadelphia Recreation Center and Youth Sports Complex.
