A Hot Springs woman riding as a passenger on a scooter died when a vehicle rear-ended the motorcycle.
Diane M. Catlett, 65, was killed Tuesday following a wreck at the junction of Central Avenue and Corporate Terrace, near Temperance Hill Square. The driver of the scooter remains hospitalized with “significant” injuries.
Catlett was a passenger on a 2022 Super Me Scooter driven by William Edward London, 40, also of Hot Springs. According to a fatal crash summary filed by the Hot Springs Police Department, the scooter was rear-ended by a 2012 Nissan Altima driven by Alissa Leigh-Ann Ashborn, 25, of Hot Springs Village.
Both vehicles were southbound on Central Avenue when the Altima struck the rear of the scooter, causing both Catlett and the driver to fall from the vehicle. The scooter was “embedded” into the front of the Altima as both vehicles came to a stop, according to the report.
Both Catlett and London were transported to CHI St. Vincent hospital, where Catlett later succumbed to her injuries. Ashborn was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The accident happened at 9:51 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, under clear skies and dry road conditions, according to Officer Shawn Lowrey, who investigated the accident.
