Despite Covid-related issues with construction materials and labor, Ouachita Baptist University’s new 144-bed apartment complex is ready for students to move into just in time for the upcoming fall semester.
Construction on the North 10th Street apartments began soon after the university announced its plans for the new student housing last August. It’s taken less than a year to build them. Although there are some final touches to be made on the two buildings, students have already begun moving in.
“We are moving forward with move in for the new apartments,” Brooke Zimny, assistant to the president for communications and marketing, told The Arkadelphian in an e-mail on Thursday afternoon. “Students moved into the West building this past Tuesday (Aug. 16), and East building residents are scheduled to begin moving in this evening.”

Zimny added: “Similar to opening other new buildings, especially given pandemic related labor and supply issues, some final work will be ongoing in the coming weeks.”
The buildings came with a price tag of an estimated $12.6 million and were the second phase of Project Foresight, an initiative Ouachita launched four years ago to develop 8 acres on the southwestern edge of the university’s campus. Project Foresight included 30 properties, including many that were vacant and deteriorated.
Classes for the 2022 fall semester at Ouachita begin Monday.
