City board to consider agreement for Pine Street water and sewer relocation

By The Arkadelphian

The Arkadelphia Board of Directors will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Town Hall Boardroom with a few items to discuss.

The first item of new business is consideration of a resolution to endorse Hostess Brands’ participation in the Tax Back program. The program is an investment incentive that provides sales and use tax refunds on the purchase of building materials and taxable machinery and equipment.

The board will consider an agreement between Arkansas Department of Transportation and the city for Crist Engineers to design the water and sewer line relocation for the Pine Street widening project. The agreement states that estimated costs are not to exceed $442,933.59.

City Manager Gary Brinkley notes that the cost will be shared by ArDOT and the city, with ArDOT responsible for 35.74%, or up to $158,304.47, and the city responsible for the remainder. Brinkley anticipates that the city’s portion will be included in the final bond issuance required to fund the relocation project.

Brinkley notes that although relocating the water and sewer lines would not be happening if not for the widening project, “the fact is we are replacing very old lines and should be doing so anyway.”

The board will also consider bids for repairs to the 8th Street and MH Russell bridges and for the rebuild of the Henderson Street drainage system.

Brinkley’s city manager report and directors’ routine business will conclude the meeting.

The meetings are open to the public and may also be viewed via a livestream.
