Beginning Jan. 1, Mark Overturf will take a seat on the Clark County Quorum Court after defeating Johnny Ledbetter in Tuesday’s primary election for District 6 Justice of the Peace.

Overturf secured 56 percent of the vote in that race, with him receiving 195 votes to Ledbetter’s 152. District 6 encompasses an area south of DeGray Lake and north of Terre Noire Creek, including the DeGray, Hearn, Piney and Shiloh communities. Overturf and Ledbetter were vying for the position left vacant by Tom Calhoon.

“I am thankful for the voters of District 6 that chose to cast their vote for me,” Overturf told The Arkadelphian in an email. “It means a lot to know that they have confidence in me to represent them at the county level. I enjoy serving and have continuously been involved in county issues so it just made sense for me to run. I look forward to serving Clark County.”

Overturf said Ledbetter sent him a congratulatory text following the announcement of the results.

  1. District 6 also reaches up and grabs part of Alpine. The rest of Alpine is in district 8, so anyone living there will have to check to see which district they’re actually in, which can be done on the SOS’s voterview website, so long as you’re registered to vote.
