1 killed, 4 hurt in Rockport wreck

A two-vehicle accident late Wednesday on Highway 270 between Malvern and Hot Springs left one person dead and four others injured.

According to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary, the driver of an eastbound 2013 Honda “crossed the centerline into oncoming westbound traffic and collided head-on” with a westbound Kia Forte. A passenger in the Kia, 22-year-old Carla Stovall, of Malvern, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hot Spring County coroner.

The accident happened at 10:47 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, near Rockport.

The driver and an infant in Stovall’s vehicle were transported to area hospitals with unknown injuries. The two occupants of the eastbound Honda were also taken to area hospitals for treatment to unknown injuries. The injured were taken to St. Vincent hospital in Hot Springs, Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Road and weather conditions were listed as dry and clear, according to Cpl. Christopher Harper, the state trooper who investigated the accident.
