Thoman receives 2nd Player of the Week honor

Makenzie Thoman

RUSSELLVILLE — Junior libero Makenzie Thoman was awarded the GAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season in the latest edition of the weekly award from the league.

Thoman accumulated 50 digs in this past week’s back-to-back victories, including 30 in the upset victory over then-first-place Arkansas Tech. For the season, the O’Fallon, Missouri, native now has a league-leading 556 digs.

Thoman is nearing Ashley Totten for 10th most digs in a single season at 637. With three more matches guaranteed left to play thanks to the GAC Tournament, the Francis Howell High School product needs 82 more to move into that record book.

For her career, Thoman has steadily climbed the all-time list throughout the season, opening the 2021 fall semester at 10th and and is now fifth all-time in program history with 1764. A deep run in the post-season conference tournament may be necessary for Thoman to climb any higher as she is 120 away from fourth place.

Thoman will be recognized at Henderson’s Senior Night on Tuesday against Ouachita Baptist at 6:30 p.m. in what will be her final match at Duke Wells Center.
