2 Arkadelphia city directors resign

Two directors of the Arkadelphia City Board have submitted letters of resignation.

Directors Robin Jones and Robert Davis, who represent Ward 3 and Ward 4, respectively, resigned from their posts immediately this week. Neither gave reason for stepping down in their resignation letters, submitted a day apart.

Both Jones and Davis were appointed to the board in early 2025 to fill vacant seats.

“I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to serve the community and work alongside dedicated colleagues,” Jones wrote in a memo dated July 27. “I appreciate the support and collaboration I’ve experienced during my tenure. I wish the city continued success in its future endeavors.”

“It has been an honor to serve the residents of Ward 4 and to work alongside the board members, city staff and community leaders during my tenure,” Davis wrote in a July 28 memo. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to our city’s growth and progress … and wish the Board, the City of Arkadelphia and its residents continued success moving forward.”

The remaining members of the city board are expected to accept both resignations at its upcoming meeting Tuesday, Aug. 4. Interested individuals should submit a written letter of interest to Arkadelphia Town Hall, 700 Clay St., Arkadelphia, by the Sept. 4 deadline.

To qualify, a citizen must reside within the ward he/she is seeking; have lived in Arkadelphia for six months; be qualified to vote in a county or state election; and be at least 21 years of age.

The board will interview interested candidates and possibly make a decision on Sept. 15. 

The Ward 3 term expires Dec. 31, 2026, and the Ward 4 term expires Dec. 31, 2029.

The city board is an elected group of Arkadelphia citizens that acts as the legislative and policy-making body under the city manager form of government. Arkadelphia’s board consists of five ward representatives and two at-large representatives (including the mayor and assistant mayor). The board of directors passes ordinances, approves budgets and hires/fires the city manager to handle daily operations of the City of Arkadelphia.
