Barbara Lee Thornton Godfrey, age 91, passed from this life on Tuesday May 12, 2026, in Arkadelphia. She was born on March 20, 1935, in Bismarck the daughter of the late Odes Lee and Hazel Green Thornton.
Barbara was a 1953 graduate of Bismarck High School. She attended Oak Bower Church in Bismarck. Barbara loved to paint and draw in her free time, her homemade cards were cherished by all who received them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles Godfrey, one sister, Bobbie (Coy) Tims, two sons in laws, Rick Mackey and Steve Herring.
Barbara is survived by one son, Michael (Mandy) Godfrey of Mena, two daughters, Trudy Mackey and Rita Herring both of Bismarck, one brother, Chuck (Melva) Thornton of Bismarck, six grandchildren, Jill (David) Williams, Ryan (Lindsey) Mackey, Heath (Katie) Herring, Matt Herring, Ashlyn (Ward) Watts, Justin (Michaela) Godfrey, Ten great grandchildren, Braley Frazier, Braden Frazier, Dray Williams, Jasa Williams, Kade Mackey, Montana Garner, Houston Garner, Wesley Watts, Elli May Godfrey, Stetson Godfrey, one great great grandchild, Willow McMahon, several nieces and nephews, and one special friend, Zelma Knox.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday May 16, at Welch Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
Honorary Pallbearers are Barbara’s grandsons.
