Clark County jobless rate climbs slightly to 5%

Clark County’s unemployment rate for February 2025, not seasonally adjusted, is at 5%, according to a preliminary county-by-county report released by the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services.

According to the report, Clark County had a labor force of 9,450 persons with 8,975 employed and 475 unemployed. The unemployment rose half a percentage point from 4.5% reported in January. In that month the labor force grew by 236 from 9,214 persons. Clark County had the third-highest jobless rate among each of its six neighboring counties.

In the southeastern corner of the state, Desha County (Arkansas City) held the highest jobless rate, with 7.5% of its 3,969 employable population without jobs. On the opposite corner of the state, Benton County (Springdale) reported the lowest unemployment rate in Arkansas, with 3.3% of its labor force of 165,677 without jobs.

Statewide, Arkansas’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate was at 3.7%, an increase of one-tenths of a percentage point compared to the previous month. There were 1.3 million Arkansans employed in March. The U.S. unemployment rate also rose one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.2% in March. An estimated 7 million Americans were unemployed in March.

The unemployment rate for Dallas County (Fordyce) rose to 4.6%, compared to 4.4% the previous month. Dallas County reports a labor force of 2,688 persons with 123 unemployed.

The unemployment rate for Hot Spring County (Malvern) rose to 4.4%, compared to 4.1% the previous month. Hot Spring County reports a labor force of 13,348 persons with 590 unemployed.

The unemployment rate for Montgomery County (Mt. Ida) remained the same, at 5.4%. Montgomery County reports a labor force of 2,935 persons with 158 unemployed.

The unemployment rate for Nevada County (Prescott) rose to 5.7%, compared to 5.4% the previous month. Nevada County reports a labor force of 2,475 persons with 141 unemployed.

The unemployment rate for Pike County (Murfreesboro) rose to 4.3%, compared to 3.8% the previous month. Pike County reports a labor force of 4.239 persons with 181 unemployed.
