Sheridan man wins $200,000 lottery prize
An incredibly lucky Arkansan made a simple stop for pizza and walked away with a life-changing winning lottery ticket.
Asa of Sheridan won $200,000 playing Bonus Buck$, a $10 instant game. He claimed his prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on Feb. 7.
The winning ticket was sold at Winner’s Circle #12, 1104 W. Center St. in Sheridan.
After work, Asa stopped by the lottery retailer to buy dinner and, on a whim, decided to purchase four lottery tickets as well.
“Something just told me to buy some tickets,” Asa told lottery officials.
The Sheridan man returned home to scratch off his tickets, winning nothing on the first three. However, to his shock, the last ticket held the instant game’s $200,000 top prize. In disbelief, Asa immediately left home to travel to another retailer to check his ticket.
Sure enough, he had won the $200,000 prize.
“I was in total shock when the retailer confirmed the win—I still am!” the Arkansan said.
Asa’s surprise was understandable. He only plays lottery games once or twice a month for fun, and his biggest prize before was $100.
The Sheridan resident first shared the good news with his ex-wife and then called his mother. Filled with excitement, Asa’s mother congratulated him and asked to see the winning ticket.
The lucky winner plans to pay off his debt and invest in his children’s future.
“I want to open a trust or savings account for them,” Asa said.
One $200,000 top prize remains on the Bonus Buck$ instant game.
Magnolia resident claims $200K prize
L. Charles of Magnolia won $200,000 playing Triple Red 777, a $10 instant game. She claimed her prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on Feb. 4.
The winning ticket was purchased at Murphy USA 7824, 58 Highway 79 Bypass in Magnolia.
Charles, a frequent lottery player, was running errands with her granddaughter when she bought the winning ticket. Although the Magnolia woman had already purchased a few tickets, her granddaughter encouraged her to try her luck with one more.
“You might as well go and get another one,” Charles’ granddaughter said.
The Magnolia resident followed her advice and selected an eye-catching Triple Red 777 ticket. Fortunately, the decision paid off—her ticket held the game’s $200,000 top prize.
“I had butterflies,” Charles told lottery officials. “I felt it in my stomach.”
She plans to buy a new home with her prize.
