The Clark County community is invited to bundle up Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, for an extremely cold Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.

Kicking off Arkadelphia’s main MLK event is a chili supper, which starts at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 307 N. 16th St.

Due to ongoing street construction in Arkadelphia, the typical route of the annual Marade has changed. The march will begin at the Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church parking lot at 16th and Caddo streets and proceed to Main Street and east to the Clark County Courthouse. Walkers and ATVs are invited to participate in the Marade. The march will begin at 2 p.m.

The speaker at the end of the march will be Rev. Roy Elliott, pastor of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Little Rock. Whether Elliott will deliver his speech outdoors or indoors is contingent upon Monday’s weather conditions.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is observed on the third Monday of January, became a federal holiday in all 50 states in 1983, 15 years after King’s assassination. As a federal holiday, government offices, banks and the U.S. Postal Service will be closed.
