South Arkansas crash claims life of Bearden passenger

A two-vehicle accident Tuesday morning in rural Ouachita County claimed the life of a Bearden man.

According to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary, a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on US Highway 79 north of Arkansas Highway 9 (near Eagle Mills) when it was rear-ended by a 2018 Dodge Ram. The collision forced the Chevy to travel off the left side of the roadway, where it struck several trees.

A passenger in the Chevy, 69-year-old James D. Cannedy, of Bearden, was killed in the accident. The driver, identified as Jamie L. Williams, 78, also of Bearden, was taken to OCHSNER LSU Health hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he was undergoing treatment for injuries not listed in the report.

The report does not name any occupants of the Dodge pickup that rear-ended the Chevy.

Investigating state trooper Senior Cpl. Billy Walker noted the time of the accident to be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024. The accident happened under clear skies and on dry roadway conditions.
