Following a weekend that saw the mercury reach the lower 90s, it may seem unfathomable that cold is on its way.
But it is, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.
“Cold temperatures will be in place this week,” the NWS said Monday, adding that it could be cold enough for frost to develop Wednesday morning and Thursday morning. The areas where frost is likely to develop are north and western Arkansas.
The latest projection puts a 38% chance of frost for Arkadelphia on Thursday morning.
Nightly temperatures in the 40s are expected to dip to a chilly 36°F on Wednesday night, with areas of frost on Thursday morning, according to an extended forecast for the Arkadelphia area. The mercury will rise Thursday to a pleasant, autumnal 68°F under sunny skies.
While the cooler weather may prompt the urge to light a bonfire, exceedingly dry conditions throughout most of the state continue to contribute to an increase in wildfire danger. Most counties in the western half of Arkansas, including Clark County, remain under a burn ban.
There is still no chance of rain in the days to come.
