Arkadelphia’s First Baptist Church will offer the grief support ministry, GriefShare, for 13 weeks starting Monday, Aug. 19, for anyone who has experienced the loss of a spouse, child, family member or friend.
The free weekly sessions from Aug. 12-Nov. 11 will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in Room 112 in the FBC Education Building, off the church’s south parking lot. Participants may enter off Eighth Street. Register or find more information at http://www.GriefShare.org. Walk-ins are welcome.
FBC offered similar sessions during the fall of 2022 and the spring of 2023. The 13 sessions focus in-depth on topics with titles such as Loneliness & Sadness, Fearful & Overwhelmed, Regrets, Questions for God, Stuck in Grief, Hope & Resilience and many more.
More than 20,000 churches throughout the U.S., Canada and 10 other countries have hosted GriefShare sessions since 1998. Each session features an information-packed video seminar. Then, local participants discuss the video content. A workbook offers journaling and personal study exercises that reinforce weekly session topics.
Participants may attend the FBC GriefShare group at any point. Each session is “self-contained,” but participants are also able to pick up missed sessions over the 13-week cycle.
GriefShare, a nondenominational, nonprofit ministry, encourages participants to experience a “journey from mourning to joy.” It’s also based on the idea that grief lingers for months and even years after a funeral.
