A woman from Athens, Alabama, died after her car collided with an 18-wheeler in Kirby, Arkansas.
Julie Faye Keith, 61, was traveling in a 2024 Toyota Corolla eastbound on US Highway 70 in Pike County when a northbound Kenworth entered the roadway from Arkansas Highway 27.
The accident happened at about 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024.
According to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash summary, the unnamed driver of the Kenworth failed to yield to the right-of-way. The passenger side of Keith’s vehicle collided with the tractor trailer.
Keith was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, where she succumbed to her injuries on Aug. 10.
The crash happened under clear skies and on dry road conditions, according to investigating state trooper Cpl. David Hamilton.
Editor’s Note: Preliminary Arkansas State Police fatality reports sometimes contain information that turns out to be inaccurate. Typical errors include spelling errors in names, or incorrect ages; outdated hometown information; vehicle direction of travel; and incident times. The ASP sometimes corrects these errors in updated reports. ASP reports omit names of passengers or drivers who are not injured, even in instances when uninjured drivers may appear to be at fault. The reports also omit names of juveniles who were injured or killed, although we report those names when obtained through other sources.
