Amity truck driver hurt, another killed in semi collision on U.S. 70

A head-on collision involving two semi-trucks Wednesday left one Arkansas truck driver dead and another injured.

The accident happened on U.S. Highway 70 between Glenwood and Kirby, in the Salem community of Pike County.

The drivers, traveling in opposite directions, were both negotiating a curve in the highway near its intersection with Kelly Road. According to a fatal crash summary, David Crum, 58, of Havana, lost control of his eastbound Peterbilt and drove into the westbound lane, where he collided with a Kenworth driven by Charles Willis, 49, of Amity.

According to the report, Willis was transported to CHI St. Vincent hospital in Hot Springs with unknown injuries. Crum’s body was taken to Smith Family Funeral Home.

The accident happened at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023, under cloudy skies and on dry roads, according to Trooper Jackson Dorman of the Arkansas State Police.
