Centerpoint FFA brings home state honors in turf grass management

Arkansas FFA congratulates Centerpoint FFA team members Brooklyn Cook, Jaycee Smith and Alyssa Hewitt, and the chapter advisors, Jerry Fendley, Billy Minton and Julie Atchley.

HOT SPRINGS, Arkansas — Members of the Centerpoint FFA Chapter received state champion honors in the State FFA Environmental and Natural Resources Career Development Event (CDE) during the 2024 Arkansas FFA State Convention in Hot Springs, Arkansas, April 22-24.

Team members include Brooklyn Cook, Jaycee Smith and Alyssa Hewitt. Cook is the state champion individual.

The Centerpoint agricultural FFA advisors are Jerry Fendley, Billy Minton and Julie Atchley. This team will represent Arkansas in the Turf Grass Management CDE at the National FFA Convention in October. The event is sponsored by the Arkansas FFA Foundation.

In the Turf Grass Management CDE, participants identify turfgrass management items, completed practicums in problem/math application and skills/performance, a written exam, and a team activity.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Arkansas Department of Career Education. The Arkansas FFA Association has more than 15,900 members and 229 chapters. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
