Rev. Llewellyn Terry, an Arkadelphia pastor, will have a seat on the Clark County Quorum Court come January after claiming a victory Tuesday in the Democratic primary.
Terry, who leads Mt. Olive Baptist Church, called his 92-33 victory over LaShunda Dickerson a “jubilant feeling”. Terry claimed 70% of the 131 votes cast in District 4. A third contestant, Marilyn Allen, claimed 5 votes; Allen dropped out early in the race.
Terry will replace longtime JP Albert Neal, who has served the district since 1993.
Terry had vied unsuccessfully for the seat in three previous elections.
“I’m excited and grateful for all the support, and ready to move forward,” Terry said after hearing the news.
Asked what he plans to bring to the table of 10 other county justices, Terry said he aims to “make it my best effort to stand as a mediator for the people in my district. I want to hear from the people and see what’s on their minds.
“Hopefully we can improve some things in Clark County and in Arkadelphia,” he added. “To God be the glory. He’s opened this door for me.”
