Arkadelphia school board renews superintendent contract

Nikki Thomas

The Arkadelphia Board of Education renewed its contract for another year with Superintendent Nikki Thomas.

The school board met in executive session Tuesday for one hour before announcing its intention to renew the contract. The school board met privately with Thomas for the first 40 minutes of that hour.

Upon reconvening in public, the board gave its unanimous nod to extend Thomas’s contract another year. No other action was taken.

Thomas was selected in May 2022 to lead Arkadelphia Public Schools. Her contract includes an annual salary of $140,000. An increase to that figure is contingent upon completion of a doctorate.

In other business, the school board:

• OK’d a $36,902 estimate from BookNook for tutoring services. The expense is to be reimbursed by the state as a grant.

• Placed 21 district policy procedures on a 30-day read.
