Paul Harvel, who headed up chambers of commerce throughout Arkansas, including Arkadelphia, has died. He was 80.
A Montgomery County resident, he was a native Texan, who was recruited to Hope High School in the 1960s to teach agriculture by the late Troy Buck before he went into working for chambers across the state for the next 53 years.
Following the county’s 2007 vote that implemented the Clark County Strategic Plan, Harvel came on board as the first CEO of the Arkadelphia Regional Alliance and EDCCC and was the one who named the Arkadelphia Alliance and put into place its structure.
Dr. Wesley Kluck, chairman of the Alliance, stated that Harvel’s experience helped get the EDCCC off the ground.
“He brought a lot of experience. We were starting from scratch,” Kluck recalled.
Harvel’s wife, Barbara, who worked at OBU during his time in Arkadelphia, survive him along with his daughter and her family.
