Roger Burroughs

Roger Wayne Burroughs age 56 of Gurdon Arkansas went to be with our Lord and Savior after battling a lengthy illness on September 30, 2023, at CHI St Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs.  He was born on January 27, 1967, the son of Wayne Burroughs and Mary Jim Longworth.  He is preceded in death by his father Wayne Burroughs, his stepfather Jim Longworth and his “Little Buddy” Thomas Ford

He is survived by his wife of 30 years Christie, his son John Burroughs, his daughter Stephanie Bost (Mark) and his pride and joy, partner in crime Stephanie Burroughs (Tay) his granddaughter. Also left to cherish his memories are his mother Mary Jim Longworth, brothers Jonathan Burroughs and Joey Burroughs, stepmother Barbara Burroughs.  As Roger always called him, his brother from another Mother Tracy Holloway and a lifelong friend Greg Hodges. Numerous extended friends and family cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Roger was a member of Manning Baptist Church where at an early age he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior.

Roger went to Sparkman High School. After High School Roger took up a career in logging where he worked for many crews around Louisiana and Arkansas. He eventually went to work for Dallas County Road Department where he retired.

Roger was an avid hunter. He was happiest in the woods whether it was hunting, camping, riding ATVs or sitting around a campfire telling one of his many stories that kept everyone laughing, the only thing that gave him more joy was being a “Paw Paw”. His granddaughter Tay held his heart. She tamed him way more than anyone else could. You could often find him with painted toenails, barrettes in his hair or outside trying to learn the latest dance trends.

Roger was a strong man. He had a good amount of grit with a dash of stubborn. He never backed down or gave up easily. When something tried to get the better of him: he would either keep at it until he won or beat it with a hammer till, he felt like he did. Roger was a fighter.

A special Thank You to all the CHI ICU nurses especially Bekka Beene, your compassion, and our hallways talks are very appreciated.

A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Welch Funeral Home. Visitation is from 12:00 until service time.
