Arkadelphia school board OKs $26K bill for emergency gas line repairs

The Arkadelphian

The Arkadelphia Board of Education approved a payment of $26,357 to Bonner Plumbing for emergency underground gas line repairs.

A large leak was reportedly discovered during an annual mandated gas valve testing, prompting the gas to be shut off to Arkadelphia High School with immediate, emergency repairs afterward. Superintendent Nikki Thomas recommended the school board to approve the payment. The board voted 7-0 in favor of the payment.

In other school business, the board:

• Officially installed Lori Smith to fill the Zone 4 seat recently vacated by Jeff Root. Prior to the meeting Smith had been sworn in at the Clark County Courthouse.

• Approved financial disclosures of two district employees for the 2023-24 school year.

• Approved the annual Child Internet Protection Act statement to the public.

• Unanimously voted to approve the district student handbook for the 2023-24 school year.

• Approved a student transfer from Arkadelphia to Centerpoint.
